In order to attract the oil companies, the Government of Mali proceeded to the second reading of the oil Code of 1969 in order to make it more incentive and to  create of a structure of promotion called "Authority for the Promotion of Oil Research to Mali (AUREP)" at the end of the year 2004.

Aurep is directed by a General manager assisted by an Associated manager. It comprises three (3) services:

- Geology Service, is charged to work out, plan, carry out or make to carry out the oil research programs of promotion and to carry out or take part in the evaluation of the oil potential of the basins;

- Data Banks Service, manages the geological and geophysical data relative to petroleum research;

- Legal and Financial Service, in charge of examing and participating to contract bills negociation and to  updating of legislative texts and the management of  legal and contentious matters.
